I belong to Chennai (Madras). I was born in
Vellore
(North Arcot district, Tamil Nadu), and have had the
experience of staying in and visiting many places, learning
some new languages and meeting people from different lands.
I studied my 11th and 12th classes at P.S.Senior Secondary
School, Mylapore, Chennai, and am currently studying
Electrical
Engineeringin
IIT Madras.
My first and foremost hobby is learning computing. I am trying to get a firm grasp on GNU/Linux and related free software, for I firmly believe in Free software. But, I have not yet graduated to the stage of being able to write or contribute much to open source software, although I try to popularise useful open-source applications among my friends by dispelling myths and apprehensions about free and open source software.
Of late, I have been making Debian packages from some free software, and getting them into Debian GNU/Linux, my favourite operating system. See my Debian Maintainer's QA page for details.
As far as academic interests are concerned, I find the whole world of Electrical Engineering quite interesting, but I do not have any particular interest as of now; this is bound to change as I learn more. In my project, which is centred on some aspects of wireless broadband, I hope to get a firm grasp on the physical layer aspects, such as MIMO+OFDM, as well as the MAC layer issues. I also like most of the signal processing topics which are covered as part of our course. Right now, I have done a diverse set of courses, including Wireless Communication, Information Theory, Signal Compression, Digital Filter Design, Estimation Theory, Digital Communication, Optical devices to name some.
Here's my resume (PDF), if you want to see it. Any more details will be updated as and when needed. You can contact me at akumar [*AT] ee.iitm.ac.in.
Last, but not least, I am a proud Indian and respect the vast culture, heritage and history of my country.
